My partner, Julie Bell, and I were commissioned to design a book of images submitted by Blair's family and friends. Blair lost her 2 year battle with cancer in March of 2007. She would have been just about 17 years old. This project really makes you realize the importance of photographs and how they stop time, capture emotions and tell stories. In a way they let us live forever.
Julie had some history with Blair and her family so it was great to be able to work together with her on this project. Having never met Blair you might think that I wasn't as moved as the family and friends by this finished product but you wouldn't believe how connected I became to this girl. She entered my dreams and I swear I could feel her in the room whenever we would get stuck, I'm sure it was her that would help get us back on track. Especially when designing the last page. It was so simple, so "Blair". Perfect and Sweet. Although I never met Blair in person I hold her in my heart. Her courage and beauty will live on through all of us who fell in love with her and those of you who view her book and tell her story.
Blairs parents have created a non profit which benefits families who have been through similar experiences. Blairs Tree Of Hope. Please visit her Caring Bridge site listed simply under the name blair for more information. Julie and I are honored to be listed as their official photographers and book designers and we look forward to working with them to help ease the suffering of others like them and help their loved ones to live on. blairstreeofhope.org
